Other benefits of ProBed medical beds
ProBed medical beds are beneficial to patients in many ways. FDA has recognized that the use of adjustable medical beds helps in treating a wide range of medical conditions. This is not to advocate ProBed medical beds as a cure, but to emphasize that they are helpful in eliminating minor pains and aches to more life threatening medical conditions.
- Occupational therapists' outlook on adjustable medical beds is that a slight incline on the head with added support under the knees, helps alleviate pain, especially in the legs and back from spinal stenosis and or herniated discs.
- Adjustable ProBed medical beds are different from standard beds in that they allow users to change the head and foot incline of the bed.
- They ease swelling of legs, relieve back pain and offset heartburn and acid reflux.
- ProBed medical beds are very useful for osteoarthritis, degenerative spondyolisthesis, and any problem with the spine, neck and knees.
- They are great for elderly, disabled, and invalid users, regardless of the condition of the handicap, whether temporary or permanent.
- ProBed medical beds are designed to suit their functionality exactly to the patient's condition and the exact position of the body by simply pressing a button.
Preventing bedsores
The most effective way to prevent bedsores is by good nutrition, sufficient fluid intake, and regular movement in bed. Good nutrition and hydration ensures the skin stays soft and supple and promotes good blood flow. Sometimes a patient needs to be moved every one and a half to two hours, which can be very tiring for the caregiver. However, ProBed medical beds make it easier. The ProBed medical beds facilitate a patient's movement without human intervention. However, there are ways in which a human can intervene to prevent bedsores.
- Change the patient's position once every two hours at the minimum.
- Position the patient in such a way as to minimize pressure, which may include placing a pillow between the knees and keeping the head flat.
- Change the bed linen frequently to prevent infections.
- Use a mattress with air circulating through it, such as gel mattresses. If the patient has to spend considerable time in a wheelchair, you may consider using gel seat cushions or foam to alleviate pressure.
- Keep the skin free of perspiration and dry, for example, if there is fluid draining from a wound this can aggravate bedsores.
- Massage the skin to increase blood flow.
- Keep the skin dry and free of perspiration or fluids (e.g. fluids that drain from wounds) as these can promote bedsores.
- Inspect the possibility of bedsores in particular body areas, and take precautions.
Prevention is always better than cure and using ProBed medical beds is one very efficient way of preventing bedsores effectively, along with other courses of discomfort in a patient.
